A bat is the most talkative animal, second only to humans. However, we cannot hear these calls and communications because they are too high in frequency. A bats call can range anywhere from 40 - 100 kHz. While a hippo’s ranges from 14 - 24 kHz. A bats way of communication is very different from a hippo’s in that it has a much higher frequency. It’s lowest frequency is just a little bit less than a hippo’s highest. They are very different in frequencies. One of the reasons that they are so different is because bats use echolocation to find their food and locate what is around them. Echolocation is when a bat lets out a call and it determines where it is and its surroundings when the echos come back to them. Most of these sounds are way above the humans hearing ability. Sometimes, a person can hear little bits of these sounds because the frequencies dip down for just a second. Bats however, do not usually go as low as a humans hearing capacity because the higher the frequency, the more detailed the surrounding to the bat.
